Job Description

Job Summary 

The OR Services Coordinator supports daily surgical operations by coordinating staffing, equipment, and procedural readiness within the operating room (OR). This role works closely with surgical teams and perioperative leadership to ensure smooth workflow, compliance with protocols, and patient safety. The OR Services Coordinator may participate in direct patient care, mentor team members, and assist with operational planning and communication to support high-quality, efficient perioperative services. 

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates and supports daily surgical case flow, ensuring appropriate staffing, room readiness, and equipment availability.
  • Collaborates with surgical, anesthesia, and perioperative leadership to facilitate efficient and safe operations.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to the surgical team and supports staff in resolving workflow or procedural challenges.
  • Participates in direct patient care and assists during emergency situations, as needed.
  • Assesses staff knowledge, skill level, and competency to make informed assignments and provide guidance.
  • Assists with onboarding and training of new team members; acts as a mentor or preceptor to support professional development.
  • Delegates responsibilities appropriately and ensures tasks are completed in alignment with staff scope and competencies.
  • Observes for and promotes adherence to safety protocols, infection control practices, and hospital policies.
  • Attends daily throughput and safety huddles and ensures all case-related needs are communicated and met.
  • Assists with staff scheduling and daily shift assignments to meet patient care and procedural demands.
  • Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree or completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program required or
  • Associate Degree in Nursing required
  • 2-4 years of experience in perioperative services or surgical technology required
  • Prior experience in a lead or coordinator role in the operating room preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of operating room procedures, equipment, and case preparation requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to delegate tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and support real-time problem-solving.
  • Understanding of infection control, patient safety, and surgical documentation requirements.
  • Proficient in the use of perioperative information systems and scheduling tools.
  • Ability to support a high-acuity, fast-paced clinical environment while ensuring quality outcomes.

Licenses and Certifications

  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist required or
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support within 30 days of employment required
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment required
  • CNOR - Certified Operating Room Nurse preferred
