Position Summary:
As the Director of the Laboratory, you will lead and oversee all administrative, technical, and fiscal operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality laboratory services. You’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with corporate policies and regulatory standards (CAP, AABB, Joint Commission, CLIA, etc.), as well as the ongoing development and management of your team. This position plays a key role in aligning lab operations with hospital-wide objectives to drive patient care excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Lead the quality control, quality assurance, and point-of-care testing programs
  • Direct all personnel functions including hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, payroll, and ongoing staff development
  • Define department performance metrics and objectives aligned with hospital goals
  • Monitor and manage department budget and resource allocation
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve issues impacting lab operations or patient care
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of lab billing and payroll
  • Evaluate capital equipment needs and make procurement recommendations
  • Keep laboratory practices up-to-date with advances in the field
  • Promote continuing education and training for lab staff
  • Represent the lab in hospital committees and performance improvement initiatives
  • Manage inventory, supply ordering, and utilization efficiently
  • Support hospital mission, vision, and values in all interactions

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field — required
  • 2–4 years of clinical, medical, or hospital laboratory experience — required
  • 2–4 years of prior management or supervisory experience — required

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), MT, CLS, AAB, or equivalent — required
