Job Summary
The Pharmacy Intern II is a graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy who assists licensed pharmacists with the preparation, dispensing, and management of medications while awaiting licensure. This advanced intern role is designed to reinforce clinical and operational pharmacy knowledge in a hospital setting. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Intern contributes to patient care initiatives, medication safety, and pharmacy operations to support optimal outcomes.
Essential Functions
- Assists pharmacists in preparing, compounding, and dispensing medications in accordance with prescriptions, regulations, and protocols.
- Participates in medication reconciliation and therapeutic monitoring efforts under pharmacist supervision.
- Conducts patient medication histories and provides education on drug regimens, side effects, and adherence as directed.
- Assists with clinical rounds, medication utilization evaluations, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels by restocking medications, auditing expiration dates, and ensuring proper storage.
- Reviews medication orders for completeness and assists with verification processes as permitted by state law.
- Documents pharmacy interventions, patient interactions, and activities in accordance with facility policies.
- Participates in departmental projects, formulary reviews, and continuing education opportunities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an ACPE-accredited program required
- 0-1 years of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) as part of pharmacy training required

- Proficient knowledge of pharmacology, clinical therapeutics, and hospital pharmacy workflows.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration across disciplines.
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a high-paced, team-based environment.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) and pharmacy information systems preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- LPT - Licensed Pharmacy Tech State Pharmacy Intern Permit or Pharmacy Technician Registration required
