Laredo Medical Center's (LMC) Nursery unit is now hiring a full-time Lactation Consultant Certified, RN to work in our fast paced Nursery department at LMC's 326 bed acute care hospital. The department is a secure unit in the main campus of Laredo Medical Center. Opportunities to cross-train and float to the other women service are available with experience. This units report directly to the Director of Women’s services. The Hospital is located in sunny Laredo, Texas, just 150 miles south of historic San Antonio. Responsible for identifying and correcting lactation problems. May plan and lead breastfeeding classes for expecting mothers. Advises physicians and healthcare providers on lactation problems experienced by patients. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor and/or manager.

Required: 

  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Certification (IBCLC), required.
  • A minimum of six (6) months relevant clinical experience  in maternal-child health nursing
  • Willingness to be crossed-trained to other unit areas.
  • BLS Certified required.
  • NRP Certified within 6 months.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred:

  • RN License (Current in the State of Texas or Eligible for Texas Endorsement) and 2 years of related experience. 
  • IBCLC 6 month experience.
