Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities & Security and/or the Security Team Leader, this position patrols the hospital campus to prevent vandalism, fire, theft and illegal or unlawful entry. Serves as Boiler Monitor performing normal and emergency duties as described in Boiler Monitor Procedures, System Operation Manual.

 Education and Skills: High School Graduate or equivalent required. Courses in formal setting concerning criminal justice system and administration are highly desirable.  Three months of formal training for security procedures, building layout, proper arrest techniques and use of equipment issued to perform the job is required.

Acquires and documents System Operation Manual training upon hire and annually thereafter.

Licensure/Certification:  Tennessee State Security license required.

Relevant Experience: Six months of previous experience required. Must have experience and background in security field or law enforcement, preferably in hospital setting.  Military training may be substituted for the above.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS AND STANDARDS 

  1. Good working knowledge of Tennessee Code Annotated as it pertains to state criminal law is highly desired.
  2. Good working knowledge of hospital policies and procedures relative to visitor control and disturbed patients.
  3. Good working knowledge of proper use of fire fighting equipment.
  4. Responsible for the safety of patients, visitors, employees and hospital property.
  5. Constantly aware of importance of making favorable impressions and projecting professional attitude and image.
  6. Ability to do repetitive work.
  7. Considerable judgment and initiative involved in dealing with patients and visitors or unauthorized persons on the hospital campus.
