Financial Counselor II-Admitting-FT-Day Shift

This position is responsible for assisting patients in resolving the financial responsibility of their hospital charges through suitable payment arrangements and/or financial assistance solutions. The Financial Counselor plays a vital role in counseling the patients by educating them on choosing the best affordable financial option and initiates charity applications. In addition, this position acts as liaison between patients, insurance companies and the Share Service Center (SSC). This includes identifying and verifying the method of payment and debt resolution. Posting payments received from customers, lock box, and other designated areas throughout the hospital. Excellent customer service and strong communication skills with patients, families, doctors, hospital department staff and insurance providers.

Some post-secondary education or relevant healthcare professional certification preferred. Must be able to read and write the equivalent of eight grade English. Two years of hospital experience and working knowledge of patient accounting functions related duties, including pre-admission, admission or emergency department registration. Working knowledge of processes for all major insurance carriers, intermediaries, Medicare and Medicaid strongly preferred. Position requires efficient organization, follow-up and data entry skills. Excellent customer relations and oral/written communication skills are required.
