Job Description

To provide therapeutic massage and administer body treatments to soft tissues of the human body including muscles, tendons and ligaments to assist healing and promote relaxation for both member and non-member clients.

Purpose of the Position:

            To provide therapeutic massage and administer body treatments to soft tissues of the human body including muscles, tendons and ligaments to assist healing and promote relaxation for both member and non-member clients.

  1. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  1. Schedule appointments and provide quality therapeutic massage as scheduled by the front desk attendants.
  2. Assist with the marketing of the massage therapy services.
  3. Actively promote massage therapy internally within the fitness center and externally, as opportunities arise.
  4. Stock massage rooms with linens and leave the table ready for the next client on a daily basis.
  5. Attend mandatory monthly meetings for the massage therapy department.
  6. Attend mandatory all-staff meetings.
  7. Other Duties and Responsibilities: 
  1. A minimum of 12 hours and 3 days of availability per week is required for each therapist.
  2. Uphold all facility policies and procedures.
  3. Maintain client confidentiality.
  4. May be asked to participate in special programs or give a presentation.III.       Knowledge and Skills:

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
  2. Must be a graduate from an accredited school of therapeutic massage.
  3. Tennessee licensure is required and NEC certification is preferred.

  1. Maintain all necessary and applicable certifications including CPR within the first six (6) months of employment. CPR is a mandatory certification for all St. Mary’s Health and Fitness Center associates.
  2. Minimum of one year experience preferred. There will be a considerable amount of public contact and it is expected that the individual will exhibit a high degree of professionalism at all times.V.        Physical Demands:

  1. Vision must be 20/20 or correctable to 20/20 and be able to distinguish colors.
  2. Ability to hear a human voice over the telephone and ten (10) feet in distance.
  3. Ability to move quickly and assist others in an emergency situation.
  4. Ability to reach overhead and bend at the waist.
  5. Ability to stand for 60 minutes of time with minimal walking.
  6. Ability to lift 20 pounds.VI.       Working Conditions and Environment: 
  7. Each massage therapist is responsible for marketing himself/herself on an individual level. It is necessary to be visible in the fitness center in order to meet members and potential clients. A special staff uniform is required and will be worn in a clean and well-maintained condition (Please see the Uniform Policy). Special programs are held at various times and may require participation.
