Plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit or during an assigned shift. Coordinates the activities of the unit and directs, organizes, and assigns work. Assesses, monitors, and educates on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary. Associate's degree in nursing required. Bachelors degree preferred. At least 3-5 years of clinical experience. Licensure as a registered nurse.
The charge nurse functions as the “go” to person for staff, physicians, and patients. They are responsible to assist with adjusting staff levels as needed, throughput management (point person for the bed flow coordinator or supervisor), and crisis management on the department. The Charge Nurse, in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Clinical Education, is responsible and accountable for staff orientation, on-hire and annual competencies, on-going in-service/educational activities, and Performance Improvement processes. The Charge Nurse assesses the learning needs of new and existing employees, endeavors to provide education and evaluates progress of the employee. Acts as a mentor and resource for team members. Assures care rendered meets evidence-based and regulatory standards and is in compliance with Moses Taylor Hospital policies and procedures.
