Evaluates assigned patients and plans, implements and documents nursing care. Assists physicians during examinations and procedures. Performs various patient tests and administers medications within the scope of practice of the registered nurse. Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. An OR nurse will provide care for patients prior to, during, and after invasive surgery or medical procedures. They also work with the patient's family members by relaying information that could be of importance to them. Current Texas Licensure to practice professional nursing.
Current BCLS certification or obtained during the first week of orientation
NRP within 1st year of hire for NICU/Transition/L&D Nurse Assignment
ACLS for L&D & Overseers within 1st year of hire
Proficient in drug types, interactions and reference materials.
Knowledgeable to give medications and perform duties of an RN.
Specific knowledge of medical terminology to be able to understand carry out physician orders.
Specific knowledge of the basic principles of the nursing field and their applications to be able to understand and carry out the duties of a staff nurse.
General knowledge of arithmetic, spelling, and grammar to be able to do drug calculations and properly document patient care.
Proficient in all aspects of nursing care for area assigned. Continuing effort to stay abreast of continually changing techniques and procedures.
