1.0 FTE Trauma PI Coordinator

Department/Division: Trauma Services

Job Summary:

The Trauma Process Improvement Coordinator works under the supervision of the Trauma Program Manager.

In conjunction with the Trauma Program Manager, the Trauma Performance Improvement RN monitors the clinical processes and outcomes and systems issues related to the quality of care provided; develops quality filters, audits and case reviews; identifies trends, near misses and sentinel events; helps to outline remedial actions while maintaining confidentiality. Identifies and trends quality issues to support performance improvement activities throughout the trauma continuum. Reviews and prepares select cases for Performance Improvement Committee review (PIPS).  Works independently, demonstrating dedication, high productivity, and self-management in a fast paced environment while meeting strict deadlines.

Requires strong organizational, leadership, group cohesion, and a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external customers as needed.

Education: 

  • Current licensure as an LPN or RN
  • Minimum of 3 years in critical care or emergency department
  • TNCC within 6 months of date of hire

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for maintaining the tracking system for case reviews and performance improvement reports.
  2. Evaluates the trauma care process for efficacy, quality, safety and effectiveness of patient care guidelines through chart review.
  3. Assists in establishing indicators for performance improvement activities/filters.
  4. Interpret data and prepare reports for performance improvement, support of related programs, research purposes, and regulatory visits.
  5. Participate in local, state, and national meetings and conferences as required by state and national regulations.
  6. Identifies trauma patients that meet process improvement inclusion criteria.
  7. Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Medical Director, and other hospital personnel to evaluate and problem-solve variations in care identified during chart review.
  8. Outcome follow-up with referring hospitals and transporting agencies.
  9. Participates as an integral member of the Trauma Services team. Involved in leadership and professional development to assure skills and knowledge of trauma information.
  10. Collaborates with Trauma Program Manager and other Trauma staff to determine data collection and monitor parameters.
  11. Reviews related materials and attend in-services as directed to maintain current knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
  12. Reviews medical records for accuracy and completeness of documentation
  13. Participates as an integral team member in the maintenance of and preparation for review of the Trauma Center.
  14. Presents data at Trauma PIPS and TPOPPs meetings as requested per the TPM.
