Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist Registered is a staff therapist who assesses patient need, correlates and evaluates patient information, evaluates and performs diagnostic studies and interventional therapies based on patient need and physician orders in accordance with standards, policies and procedures. The therapist accepts and transcribes verbal and telephone orders from physicians. He/she ensures effectiveness of therapies. The Respiratory Therapist Registered functions as a clinical expert and educator in all respiratory care modalities. He/she participates in quality assurance and performance improvement activities. He/she is a resource person for Joint Commission requirements and standards for the department.

Education REQUIRED:  Requires an associate's degree and a credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
 
Experience REQUIRED: At least one year of clinical experience in respiratory care.
 

Licenses/Certificates REQUIRED:  Active status as a Registered Respiratory Therapist through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).  Current license by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy (ASBRT).  Maintains current training in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP).  Life support requirements are completed within 60 days of hire.
