Part Time
Provides advanced life support care to patients who are ill and/or injured. Transports and transfers patients and assesses the extent of an illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to follow. Applies artificial respiration or administers oxygen when necessary, dispenses antiseptic solution to prevent infection, starts and administers intravenous fluids, and performs other emergency medical procedures during the ambulance ride. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.
POSITION PURPOSE | |||||||||||
The ER Paramedic / EMT, under supervision of the Nurse Manager and the nursing supervisor is responsible for the nursing care of the patients in the emergency department and is responsible for the direction of patient care. The Paramedic delivers care based on patient needs appropriate for the infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. He/she demonstrates an interest in patient centered approach to total nursing care, and demonstrates cooperation, flexibility, and resourcefulness when dealing with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel. The Paramedic shall be responsible for assisting with planning, supervising and evaluating the nursing care of patients and for correlating the nursing process, the medical plan of care and policies. | |||||||||||
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS | |||||||||||
Education: Must be a graduate of an approved paramedic school as evidenced by verification of TN EMT-P licensure. Must provide transcripts/diploma upon hire. | |||||||||||
Experience: Desirable characteristics include at least two years of experience in a hospital or medically related environment | |||||||||||
Licenses/Certificates: License to practice as a EMT-P in the State of Tennessee, BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross). ACLS and PALS certifications required within one year of assignment to the Emergency Department, if not current upon hire. |
