Director of Surgical Services @ Lutheran Hospital

An exciting career opportunity is now available for a Director of Surgical Services at Lutheran Hospital in Ft Wayne, Indiana. Lutheran Hospital is a 396-bed tertiary care facility delivering innovative care in a nurturing environment. Since opening in Fort Wayne on Thanksgiving Day 1904, the hospital has continually expanded its services to meet the needs of adults and children throughout northeastern Indiana and northwestern Ohio.   

Department:

Oversees daily operations at Lutheran Hospital of Main OR (16 Surgical Suites), CVOR (4 Surgical Suites) & Endo (13 Procedure Rooms). Level II Trauma center with 12K cases annually. We are Northern Indiana's only heart transplant program. A certified comprehensive stroke center.  

Job Summary:

Reports directly to the Executive Director of Surgical Services and is responsible for the planning of growth opportunities, thus setting the vision and goals of the department. Support is provided by 1 manager of Endo and a total of 7 Lead Nurses across the 3 units.  Mentors and promotes staff development for 100 plus FTE’s. The Director must be a strong communicator, as this position requires collaboration with staff, surgeons, CRNAs, vendors, patients and families, peers, and senior leaders

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing and current state RN license  
  • 3-5 years of OR management or director experience with multiple service lines

General Description:

Responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, direct and indirect, patient-family centered care through the continuum of surgical care. Responsible for directing, planning, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating nursing care and patient outcomes. Responsible for resource management, policy and program development, and fiscal management. Responsible for managing the operations, evaluating manager and employee performance, demonstrating customer satisfaction (internal and external), and strategic and operational planning and program development

Provides leadership and effective personnel management by maintaining and evaluating team member performance and attendance, and providing opportunities for staff development. Promotes and communicates the culture, values, and commitment of Lutheran Hospital through programs that ensure provision of high quality levels of guest service.  

Leadership in cardiac care is reflected in the hospital's vast cardiology and cardiovascular services. Recognitions include: 

  • The HeartCARE Center TM National Distinction of Excellence (the American College of Cardiology's highest recognition)
  • AFib with electrophysiology services accreditation (the first in Indiana)
  • Chest pain center with PCI and Resuscitation accreditation
  • Cardiac cath lab with PCI accreditation
  • Advanced Heart failure accreditation
  • Certification as a ventricular assist device destination therapy provider
  • Transcatheter Valve certification
