Job Description

STATEMENT OF  PURPOSE: The Surgical Technician 1st Assistant Specialty Facilitator is responsible for coordinating the specialty team to provide perioperative care to patients within the assigned surgical specialty. The Specialty Facilitator collaborates with the OR Leadership Team and staff to provide consistent, quality patient care and contributes to the operation of the department by addressing issues related to their specialty area. The Specialty Facilitator coaches, motivates and leads staff within the assigned specialty.  In addition to this role, the Surgical 1st Assistant is an assistant to the surgeon, handles instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during surgical procedures.

The Surgical First Assistant, through active participation, assists in planning, implementing and ensuring quality patient care during the operative procedure.

 

BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:  Education / License /  Certification:

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Graduate of Surgical Technician School or 2 years experience as surgical scrub   

     technician

  • Graduate of advanced surgical training as Surgical 1st Assist
  • First Assistant certification required
  • BLS required (current)

 

BASIC  PHYSICAL  REQUIREMENTS:

  • 1 year experience as a Surgical First Assist preferred
