Opportunity for a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Respiratory Therapist Certified –CRT at the new Lutheran Downtown Hospital!

Lutheran Downtown Hospital of Fort Wayne, Indiana is looking for a Respiratory Therapist - from new grads to seasoned - to join our team! Our passion is to deliver the highest level of expertise and technology locally, giving respiratory therapists at every stage in their career the opportunity to grow, lead and mentor into more specialized clinical areas of our hospital, close to home.  Our highly professional team of clinical staff and doctors are committed to providing quality patient care with a family-centered approach.  Lutheran Downtown Hospital, part of the Lutheran Health Network, located on the southwest corner of Main and Van Buren, will be a 60-bed acute care hospital opening for patient care in early 2022. The decision to build an advanced, vibrant facility, which is being constructed across the street from the existing hospital, aligns with Lutheran Health Network's goals to stay downtown and remain an active participant in its success.

The planned size of the facility reflects the growth in services being offered in outpatient settings as medical technologies advance. The facility will be built with space to accommodate future growth to more than 100 beds, based on the community's needs.

Lutheran Downtown Hospital will include a 19-bed Emergency Department, operating suites, two gastroenterology suites, imaging services, robotic-assisted surgery, and laboratory services.

Job Summary:

  • Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.
  • Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety, and medical information.
  • Reads and interprets physicians’ orders to determine treatment requirements including type and duration of therapy, medication, dosages, and ventilator settings.
  • Confers with patients and/or family members to obtain pertinent patient information during assessment including the history of respiratory problems, current medication, patient pulse rate, and the like. Reviews patients’ charts to obtain the blood-gas reports and other pertinent information.
  • Explains treatment procedures to patient and/ or family members to alleviate fears and elicit cooperation.
  • Checks equipment for proper set-up, functioning, and settings, and verifies physicians’ orders before initiating procedures and treatments.
  • Prepares medications according to prescription/order and adds to device.
  • Observes patients during therapy, instructs patient in breathing pattern and reports any abnormalities to the physician. Documents treatment activities and results in the patient record (i.e. treatment type, medication, HR, PR, BS, cough, and so on).
  • Monitors patients on continuous ventilation including maintenance of airway patency, suctioning and documents in such during schedules vent checks. When indicated, wean patients from mechanical ventilation according to established protocols.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the purpose of the job as directed.

 Experience: 

Minimum of six months to one year of progressively more responsible experience providing broad scope nuclear medicine services preferred. 

 

 Education:


Graduate of an AMA accredited program.

 

Licensure: Currently holding a License in Respiratory Therapy from the State of Indiana. Must hold minimum CRT credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care.

 

Experience: Experience desired in Critical Care, NICU, Open Heart Recovery, and Bronchoscopy.
