Job Description

This is an evening shift position. Performs activities and other tasks as necessary in a laboratory environment. Records observations and measurements and reports results. Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. Assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials, and ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. High School diploma or equivalent and no experience. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a lead, supervisor, or manager.

What Does a Laboratory Assistant Do?: As a Laboratory Assistant with Lower Keys Medical Center, you will spend your day…

  • Performing activities and other tasks as necessary in the general laboratory, and histology environments.
  • You will also perform basic clerical duties, i.e. monitoring incoming and outgoing phone calls, faxes and mail, maintaining office supplies and ordering as needed, etc.  
  • You will be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment.
  • Assisting with the receipt and inspection of raw materials, and the ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. 
  • The logging, identification, and labeling of specimens collected by the facility.
  • Following up with the Pathology Department throughout the day regarding documentation, reporting, and research results.
  • This position works closely with our Case Management Department.
  • You will rely on your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish both short-term and long-term goals.
  • You will work under general supervision.

Which Qualifications Do You Need? : In order to set you up for success, you need the basics of…

  • Requires High School diploma or GED is required.
  • You will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures, including Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.
  • Two years of experience is preferred however it is not required.
