Blood Bank Technical Coordinator

Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of the immunohematology department and transfusion services, including but not limited to analytical processes, new employee and student training, employee competency, and supplies.  Performs laboratory testing with accuracy and precision.  Responsible for new analytical procedure development and implementation.  Responsible for maintaining accreditation compliance (JCAHO, AABB).  Evaluates employees and provides continuing education.  Troubleshoots blood bank problems, including transfusion related incidents, antibody identification, donor compatibility, and obstetrical emergencies.  Consults with medical director on blood utilization, process improvement, and quality assurance results.  Serves as technical expert.  Serves as liaison with blood suppliers anticipating hospital needs in order to maintain adequate blood products inventory. Maintains all blood bank records.  Reviews all patient results and all proficiency testing results.  Reviews all departmental technical policies.Requires graduation from an accredited MT program, passing a national exam given by the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and at least 5 years of experience. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
