Job Description

Collects blood sample from patients, ensures quality of blood, and assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients following established standards and practices.  Helps train and oversee performance of New hire Phlebotomy personnel.  Capable of working all shifts as needed.  Prepares referred test requisitions and specimens, as necessary.  Accessions collected specimens into lab computer and triages into working areas.  Performs other clerical duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (including required licenses/certifications, education and job knowledge/experience):

  • Minimum Education:  Formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
  • Preferred Education:  Some college coursework or training in phlebotomy.
  • Preferred Experience:  Six months phlebotomy experience with geriatric and pediatric patients.
  • Preferred Certification:  Phlebotomy or EMT/Paramedic certification. BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Required Competency:  Successful completion of Phlebotomy Skills Demonstration.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Effective oral and written communication skills in the English language.  Ability to perform effectively in fast paced, stressful environment.
