Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Under the immediate direction of the Coordinator of Critical Care Transport/Emergency Medical Services (EMS), or other designated clinical leadership, provides advanced life support for critically ill/injured patients at the scene or inter hospital facility as part of an air transport team under the stresses of flight and hazardous environmental conditions. 
  • When not engaged in transport/flight duties, the flight paramedic performs related functions within the emergency services department, as requested.

 

Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications

Registration/Certification/Licensure:

  • Current certification from the State of Indiana as a paramedic. 
  • Current certification in CPR, ACLS. 
  • Within one year, completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professional (PEEP).   Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS), Transport Nurse Advanced Trauma Course (TNATC), and Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) are desired, but not required certifications. 
  • Current drivers license, which meets present hospital insurance carriers minimum requirements acceptable under insurability guidelines related to driving of hospital owned vehicles.

Experience:

  • Three years experience practicing as a paramedic in a high volume system.

Education:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma, or its equivalent (GED)
  • Completion of a state approved Paramedic program with a current Paramedic Certification. 

Physical Requirements:

  • To safely operate within the weight specifications of the aircraft, each individual crew member must not exceed 230 pounds in weight. 
  • Weight will be assessed every 6 months.
