Summary:
The Manager, Coding Quality Professional Fee establishes and manages integrated training and development strategies and programs for professional fee coding staff employed by the Physician Coding and Documentation (PCD) Department. Develops and implements strategic needs analysis and training plans for the department; coordinates and evaluates curriculum development and conducts the identification, delivery, and tracking of training and quality metrics. The manager position is also responsible for leading the Coding QA Review team.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the PCD Coding QA team by ensuring completion of reviews in accordance with the Coding Quality Review Plan, tracks results, communicates to coding operations leaders and consults with managers on results-based action plans.
  2. Uses QA results to define coding education. Provides consultation, leadership, and expertise to internal management in the planning, implementation and delivery of coding education.
  3. Develops training materials and coding aids for both formal training and use by coders in daily work to include technical training such as use of coding applications and code training.
  4. Tracks Computer Assisted Coding Utilization and present trends with suggestions for improvement based on results.
  5. Develops and implements a comprehensive educational plan for all coding types including new hire requirements to be completed in-parallel with new coder reviews.
  6. Creates and distributes monthly newsletter with current coding topics and updates including available education.
  7. Manages coding vendor relationships and assignments of work to support the quality assurance program.
  8. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education: High School Diploma

Required Experience:

  • 2 years Professional Fee Coding Educator and/or Leadership
  • 10 years Professional Fee Coding Experience

Preferred Experience: 2 years Professional Fee Coding Leadership

Required License/Registration/Certification: CPC, CCS-P, or CBCS

Computer Skills Required: Must have knowledge and experience with Word Processing Software, Spreadsheet software and Database software. Experience working with hospital and clinical EMRs is also required.
