Job Description

Job Summary 

Under the immediate direction of the Laboratory Operations Manager, responsible for the day-to-day operations and supervision of laboratory staff involved in the collection and testing of patient specimens for use in diagnosis and treatment of patient conditions.
 

Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications

Education/Experience/Registration
  • Minimum requirements are consistent with CLIA regulatory requirements. 
  • In addition, 3-5 years recent clinical laboratory experience with progressively more responsibility, including previous experience in a leadership role; med tech registration by ASCP or equivalent agency.
Job Knowledge & Skills 
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of laboratory testing, reporting procedures, specimen collection and processing, in addition to the operation and maintenance of related equipment in order to perform a variety of analytical tests on patient specimens and general knowledge of regulations impacting laboratory technology.
  • Requires general working knowledge of the normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs, and comfort appropriate to the age (including neonate, child, adolescent, aging adult) and diagnosis of patient served to support the provision of an individualized multidisciplinary plan of care.
  • Requires leadership, group cohesion, and communication skills promoting teamwork and group achievement.
  • Requires strong analytical and organizational skills in order to conduct a variety of in-depth laboratory tests on patient specimens, maintain related documentation, monitor activities of staff and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Requires a good understanding of the role of the laboratory in providing excellent patient care. Understands the responsibility of the laboratory to provide accurate and timely information to assist in positive patient outcomes. Understands the importance of maintaining working relationships with other staff members in the laboratory and the hospital.
  • Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers, as needed.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the English language, both verbal and written.
