Job Description

Certified Surgical Tech OR- Full Time Days

Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.  They possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Functions in accordance with scope of practice, experience, education and competency verification. May be required to participate in on-call status.

Education:    

  • High School Diploma required
  • Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology Program preferred

Certifications/Experience: 

  • CST certification via NBSTSA 
  • If graduated from an accredited surgical technology program or completion of a program provided by the US Armed Forces prior to 7/1/2009, CST certification may not be required. 
  • Current BLS certification via AHA or ARC
  • 30 minute call response time required

Essential Functions:

  • Assembling and checks supplies and equipment required for the procedure
  • Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
  • Performing counting procedures in concert with the RN circulator according to facility policy.
  • Maintaining an organized sterile field; Ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed
  • Providing exposure through correct use of instruments, retractors, suctioning, and sponging techniques.
  • Assists with handling of tissue specimens.
  • Cleaning and preparing surgical instruments for processing and transporting them to the decontamination area.
  • Assist with post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
  • Performs assigned daily/monthly duties (i.e. room checks, outdates, returning equipment to assigned areas)
  • Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities.
  • Adhering to proper patient isolation precautions
  • Actively participating in per operative Safe Procedure Review
